Choosing Between Breast Implant Options

June 25th, 2013

Orange County Breast ImplantsWhen it comes to breast implants, Orange County women have a number of different options to choose from. It is important to keep in mind the differences between each type of material in order to make the decision that is best for a desired outcome. Working with a plastic surgeon such as Dr. Ambe can help to ensure information is accurate.

Silicone: Approved by the FDA in 2006, this type of material comes pre-filled in a sealed casing. The fact that it comes pre-filled means that the incision to place the material has to be a bit longer than with other materials that can be filled once placed within the chest wall. Silicone now comes in texture and highly cohesive gel, known as “gummy bear implants,” options for improved firmness and durability.

Saline: Ranging from 120cc to almost 1000cc, this type of material is suitable for many women interested in breast implants. Orange County patients enjoy the benefits of this type of material, which include variety of size, shape, thickness, profile, and other custom options. They are usually filled at the time of surgery and, as such, the surgeon can use a smaller incision to place the material.

Hydrogel: This type of material is no longer available due to dangerous reports of leakage, capsular contracture, infection, and deformation. They have been replaced by other versions of materials such as saline and silicone that are much safer materials for breast implants.

Orange County women are encouraged to learn more about the different options available for elective reconstruction and enhancement options. By making an informed decision, patients can help improve results and reduce overall risk.

Combat the Signs of Aging with a Facelift

June 18th, 2013

Orange County FaceliftMany men and women continue to seek the fountain of youth and would love the ability to stop or even reverse the signs of aging. As the years accumulate, wrinkled or sagging skin may begin to portray old age even if the person still feels as young as ever. Orange County facelift options can combat the signs of aging and make patients look and feel younger. For men and women who find they are bothered by sagging skin along the chin and jawline or deep creases across the forehead, this type of custom cosmetic surgery is a huge opportunity to increase their satisfaction with the way they look. Loss of muscle tone and decreased skin elasticity is a normal part of aging that affects every individual differently. While some enjoy continued collagen turnover, others visibly look older than they are.

Dr. Ambe offers personalized treatment plans with Orange County facelift surgery that are designed to meet individualized needs and budgets. His practice takes advantage of recent advances in technology in order to minimize adverse side effects and maximize beautiful results. It is important to keep in mind that this elective procedure cannot stop aging completely and will not alter a patient’s fundamental appearance. However, many patients enjoy dramatic results that rejuvenate their overall skin tone and appearance. Combined with other procedures such as brow lift or eyelid surgery, eyes are opened up and the entire face looks more youthful.

Orange County facelift may be right for patients who are physically healthy, do not smoke, and have a positive outlook with realistic expectations. Call Newport Beach Plastic Surgery today for more information and to book a free initial consultation.

Enhancing Your Look with a Breast Lift

June 11th, 2013

Orange County Breast LiftMastopexy is becoming a more popular elective cosmetic surgical option for women that don’t want to undergo implant or reconstruction surgery. When they get a breast lift, Orange County women enjoy natural results through minimally invasive removal of excess skin and tightening of surrounding tissue. For women that are content with the overall size of their chests but want the tools to fight against aging effects, this procedure may be right.

There are a number of different factors that can affect the elasticity of skin as women age. Pregnancy and breastfeeding are two of the most common reasons that breasts lose their youthful shape and appearance. Weight loss or weight gain, aging, and gravity can also be reversed with revolutionary procedures such as a breast lift. Orange County patients can turn back the hands of time and feel better about their appearance in everything from a bathing suit to an evening gown.

It is important to keep in mind that this type of procedure does not dramatically increase the size of breasts and does not involve the use of saline or silicone implant materials. With the breast lift, Orange County plastic surgeons work with existing tissue to make the breasts firmer, position them higher on the chest, and improve the shape and appearance of the areola. For patients that are interested in smaller breasts, this may be a good choice in conjunction with a reduction. The results are generally natural with minimal side effects and fewer long term risks due to the fact that implant material is not used.

Tumescent Liposuction is an Ideal Way to Slim Down and Tone Up

May 9th, 2013

With results that deliver a slimmer, toned look that inspires self-confidence, it’s no surprise that liposuction ranks among the most commonly performed cosmetic procedure in the United States. The surgery, which essentially removes excess fat deposits from the abdomen, thighs, waist, and buttocks, helps achieve cosmetic goals where diet and exercise alone have failed. Patients look in the mirror and like what they see. It’s that simple.Tumescent Liposuction

Dr. Ambe offers several methods to liposuction at his practice including the medically sound and peer-reviewed technique called tumescent liposuction (liposculpture). This approach is specifically designed to deliver the same fantastic results as traditional liposuction, but it also minimizes the risk of blood loss and risks of general anesthesia. The liposculpture method was pioneered with the intent to improve patient safety. Here are some of the key advantages:

•        Fluid replacement is not necessary

•        Minimal recovery time

•        Less post surgical issues than regular liposuction

•        Duration of anesthesia effects are less

•        Incisions are smaller

•        Epinephrine is added to local anesthesia solution to minimize blood loss

The tumescent liposuction method is ideal for patients who are in good health and are looking to take it to the next level. Dr. Ambe will discuss the potential results with you and craft a unique plan for your goals. Many clients report a boost in confidence after the surgery. It’s still important to stick to a healthy well-balanced diet to maintain results. Call Newport Beach Plastic Surgery today to schedule your free consultation.

Number of Breast Lifts Surge; Satisfaction Rates Climb Too

April 30th, 2013

For years the plastic surgery market has continued to show signs of significant growth. With an average surge of 5 percent yearly for the past several years, the number of Americans who underwent cosmetic surgery in 2011, the last year of data available, topped 13.8 million, according to the American Society of Plastic Surgery. Of those surgeries, the biggest surge and reigning popularity king was breast lifts or breast augmentations.

breast lift orange countyThis is no surprise. When 2012 data is published, it’s likely this trend will continue. Doctors have for years touted the positive effects that breast lifts have on their patients. In fact, plastic surgery is synonymous with reconstructive and cosmetic benefits. When it comes to a breast lift nothing else appears to be as desirable or satisfactory to clients.

This procedure, colloquially referred to as a boob job, is a great way to transform sagging, or misshapen breasts into the firm, supple form. Known as a mastopexy in the medical world, a breast lift raises and firms the breast by removing excess skin and tightening the surrounding tissue to reshape and support the new breast contour. Over time, it’s common for a woman’s breast to naturally lose the shape of its youth. This is often the result of pregnancy, breastfeeding, gravity, aging, and other factors.

Luckily, with the advancement of modern medicine it’s easy to regain firm, supple, and shapely breasts. A breast lift procedure, generally lasting just a few hours, is an outpatient surgery in which risks are typically considered minor. Although no medical procedure is risk free, most patients walk away with some minor pain, bruising, and other side effects that are easily managed. Of course, no two patients are the same which is why Dr. Ambe will walk you through the entire process during a one-on-one consultation.

This surgery is categorically proved to improve self esteem. In an unprecedented study, the American Society of Plastic Surgery spent five years researching patient’s outlook after they had a breast lift, or breast augmentation. Researchers interviewed 325 women. Almost every single patient interviewed, or roughly 99 percent, said they would undergo the surgery again. Equally as impressive is the fact that 91 percent reported improved self-esteem.

In other words, this procedure gives you more than a higher positioned and fuller set of breasts, it may also give you a new outlook on life. Contact us today for more information.

How Long Does a Facelift Last?

April 15th, 2013

facelift orange countyA recent study has been conducted looking at the lasting results of a facelift. The study was largely done in part to help plastic surgeons address the questions and concerns of their patients. If you’re interested in learning how long the results of a facelift will last, then the study will elaborate on these details. More than five years after surgery, over 75% of patients report that they still look younger than before their procedure.

The study conducted by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons looked at a few different factors. They looked at objective measurements in combination with subjective medical and personal assessments of the aesthetics of the face. Even while there was a 20-70% loss margin for objective measurements, the subjective assessments showed minimal signs of aging. The scoring suggested that an average of 3 out of 4 patients will still look younger 5 or more years after a facelift.

Today, when you head in for a consultation, your surgeon can now safely approximate how long the results of your facial surgery will last. The other important deduction that comes out of this study is that results may vary from patient to patient depending on health. Many women still consider non-surgical ways of maintaining a youthful look through injectables and other cosmetic treatments which provide a short term solution. If you’re looking for a dramatic transformation and results that will last for years, consider a traditional facelift.

With the New Year, Some Trends in Plastic Surgery Prevail

April 3rd, 2013

botox newport beachWith the start of a new year, there are a few plastic surgery trends that we may see become increasingly prominent in the coming months. With the improving technologies and techniques in the medical field, both doctors and patients are discovering new treatments that may more closely meet their individual needs and desires. The increased availability of cosmetic injectables, for example, may encourage more people to make such an investment to improve their appearance. In support of this theory, there is a correlation between economic status and plastic surgery. Many believe that as the economy sees improvement, the demand for facial rejuvenation will increase.

Yet another trend building is the replacement of aging implants. Not only are baby boomers seeing their age climb, but many who have had previous surgeries may note their results suffering from the impact of aging. Not only will more people look to invest in their appearance with cosmetic surgery options, but those who have had previous procedures completed may be looking to replace or repair prior work.

As the population expands and as there is an increase number of people entering in the workforce, there will be more people interested in cosmetic surgical options to get the competitive advantage. With increasing access to the Internet and other avenues to gain information, prospective patients can gather more and more information about possible procedures and the doctors that perform them. As we are already into the new year, non-surgical and minimally invasive procedures will continue to see an upturn as the technology supporting such feats becomes more available. The increased ease of the procedures and the increased amount of knowledge of patients will be hallmarks of plastic surgery in the coming years.

Ask Now, Feel Confident the Moment Your Plastic Surgery Begins

March 20th, 2013

Finding a good plastic surgeon means the potential patient needs to ask the right questions, starting with those enclosed. Its important to be informed before any medical decision.

When you consider plastic surgery, you are contemplating a transformation from an old you into a new you. There are a variety of reasons to undergo such a procedure. Some want to trim their waist or thighs. Others do it to remove birth defects or to fix injuries. Whatever the reason is that lead you to consider a plastic surgeon, it’s important to know what questions to ask.

A board certification indicates the plastic surgeon has extensive specialized knowledge as well as experience, training, and more. It can also indicate a certain level of professionalism, and in some instances, it can speak volumes about their practice. You can double-check their qualifications yourself by going to the board’s website.

You want a doctor who has experience in hundreds of other procedures before he or she operates on you. The more procedures the plastic surgeon has performed, the more experience they have. Don’t feel rude. Remember, they are working for you. This is your body.

Although plastic surgery is a rapidly evolving field of medicine, both in terms of knowledge bases and technology, the general rule is that plastic surgery is a relatively safe outpatient procedure. Most of the time, risks include swelling, bruising, or even minor scarring. Other times there are more serious risks such as blood loss, infection, and more. Essentially, risks vary from procedure to procedure and person to person. Although most serious complications are rare, a good plastic surgeon will minimize risks with a thorough and comprehensive surgery.
An honest and qualified doctor should not be afraid to go over any risks that you face.

Before and after photos are an excellent way to examine the plastic surgeon’s skill set. Not only can you look at photos of the procedure you are contemplating, but you also see how well they perform the surgery. Ask follow up questions too. For instance, if you see a photo that shows a particularly good job, then you can ask your doctor what procedure was exactly performed and what the client’s goals were. Before and after photos can help you envision what your procedure will look like.
Many plastic surgeons are found with recommendations from friends or family members. But if you’ve never personally dealt with the plastic surgeon, feel free to ask for 3-6 references. This is a good way find out about the procedure and the results. You can also get an idea on recovery times and pain management, as well as the doctor’s bedside manner and professionalism.

Feel Confident About Getting a Facelift by Asking the Right Questions

March 6th, 2013

facelift newport beachFrom understanding the types of procedures to recovery times, we provide a list of the most frequently asked questions facelift candidates ask.

A facelift is no doubt one of the most common ways surgical patients enhance their looks. After all, your face is what people see first. It is the cornerstone of your first impression. We all want to look and feel great, and facelifts can make this happen by taking years off your face, leaving you looking younger and refreshed.

But like any other surgical procedure, you likely have questions. Here we provide some of the most frequently asked facelift questions patients ask.

Will it be obvious to others that I’ve had surgery?
No, as long as the procedure is performed correctly there won’t be any obvious signs of surgery. A good surgeon won’t leave any scarring or other surgical indications of your procedure. One of the most common requests we get from patients is to make their facelift look natural, and that is certainly achievable.

How painful is a facelift?
A typical facelift surgery comes with a moderate amount of discomfort. Very few of our patients have indicated great pain. The discomfort, however, subsides within a few weeks. Most patients say the discomfort is only a minor inconvenience to reach their cosmetic goals.

How long is the typical recovery period?
In most instances, patients can resume normal activities within 7 to 10 days. We do advise, however, that people typically avoid strenuous activity for the first three weeks. Like any procedure though, these recovery times will vary by patient. Your healing time will depend on how well your body recovers as well as the type of procedure you want.

What kinds of facelifts are available?
There are two main types of facelift surgeries, the mini-lift and the mid-lift.

The mini-lift is designed to give patients a youthful appearance in their cheeks, lower eyelids and midface areas. It is designed to establish facial balance and give an overall youthful look in the lower third area of your face.

The mid-lift focuses on the triangular shape of your face, the area beneath the two corners of your eyes and the corner of your mouth. This is one of the most common procedures because this area is one that tends to show the first signs of aging. Essentially, it can reposition the underlying fat and muscles on a person’s face.

Am I a good candidate?
Candidates are typically evaluated during consultation meetings. In general, you should be physically and psychologically healthy and have a goal of improvement rather than perfection.

Rhinoplasty Offers More than What Meets the Eye

February 22nd, 2013

rhinoplasty newport beachPlastic surgery offers a wide range of benefits. Not only do you get an enhanced look, but you also get increased confidence. Yet, there’s one type of plastic surgery that offers more than a new look. Rhinoplasty, also known as a nose job, often allows you to breathe easier and sleep better. It’s one plastic surgery that gives you multiple benefits with just a single appointment.

There’s a reason why the market for breathing aid products is so large. Many people find it hard to breathe. It can be frustrating, even scary, when you cannot inhale and exhale with ease. Often times, breathing problems are associated with a disorder known as a deviated septum. While you’ve likely heard of a deviated septum, you may not have realized that this issue is very common. A nose job could help. In this case, the nasal septum will be moved into the correct position, thus improving airflow through the nasal passages. If you have breathing problems, you should consult your doctor. Corrective surgery may be the answer. Rhinoplasty has helped countless people achieve optimal results.

When you breathe better, you also sleep better. It is frustrating to sleep for hours without ever feeling rested. It’s time to curb those frustrations. Rhinoplasty can help. A nose job can clear critical air passages. Think of the duct system in your house. When you clean your air ducts, you get better air circulation. The same can be said for a nose job.

Without surgery, many people suffer every night with sleep apnea. This is a common sleep disorder caused by lack of airflow. Sleep apnea causes airways to close up, and this can lead to serious health problems. While home remedies may work sometimes, rhinoplasty has been known to help restore natural breathing patterns. There’s no reason to worry about breathing adequately. A nose job could be the answer to all your problems. Consult your plastic surgeon for more information.

Finally, a nose job offers anyone the chance to like the face they see in the mirror. Not only will you be able to breath easier and sleep soundly, but you will also look great. It’s like getting the most for your money. Corrective rhinoplasty gives you the chance to work with a plastic surgeon to find the right look for you.

Breast Augmentation Boosts Self-Esteem And General Well-Being

January 23rd, 2013

Breast AugmentationIt’s official. Breast augmentation surgery can improve more than just the physical appearance. In a study published recently in the official journal of The American Society of Plastic Surgeons, researchers found women who underwent breast augmentation surgery were more than 80 percent likely to report “significant improvement” to self-esteem and appearance.

Using a scale of 0-100, women were asked to rate their experience in six areas: satisfaction with breasts, overall outcome, psychosocial well-being, sexual happiness, physical well-being, and satisfaction with care. The goal was to “capture the impact of surgery from a patient perspective,” according to researchers.

The report found that satisfaction with their breasts after surgery skyrocketed from 27 to 70, roughly a 160 percent surge. Gains in psychosocial well-being also posted dramatic increases from 45 to 78, about a 73 percent leap. For sexual contentment, results jumped from 35 to 72, a 120 percent increase.

In other words, women are noticing unprecedented changes in their physical bearing and mental satisfaction after breast augmentation surgery. Quality of life is increasingly regarded as an important factor to consider when evaluating the benefits of many types of medical or surgical procedures. While anecdotal evidence routinely suggests women are more confident and happy with their new enhancements, this study is one of the first to prove the assumptions of plastic surgeons nationwide.

In fact, the quality of life gains achieved through breast augmentation mirror the same gains often seen by people who undergo hip replacement surgery. But breast augmentation is typically for cosmetic purposes, while hip replacement surgery is crucial to maintaining mobility. The fact that the patient satisfaction levels are roughly the same only solidifies the fact that breast augmentation surgery provides more than just aesthetic benefits. It can offer the same level of patient self-esteem and confidence as can the ability to walk properly.

With that said, there is no wonder that breast augmentation is the most common surgical procedure performed in the United States. Last year alone, more than 300,000 women underwent cosmetic breast augmentation, according to the ASPS. The sheer number of women undergoing the procedure signifies how important it is for women to look and feel their best.

“Cosmetic breast augmentation can have a significant and profoundly positive impact on a woman’s satisfaction with her breasts [and] her psychosocial and sexual well-being,” said to the study’s co-author, Dr. Colleen M. McCarthy of Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York.

Dr. Ambe has echoed Dr. McCarthy’s sentiment for years. Now there is proof. If you want to join the ranks of these satisfied women, schedule a consultation for breast augmentation at our Newport Beach office. Come in today and discover the “significant improvement” you’ve always wanted.

Ask The Right Questions Before You Undergo A Rhinoplasty

January 4th, 2013

rhinoplastyRhinoplasty is a significant surgery that can deliver miraculous results. Because the procedure requires a great deal of time, energy, and precision, it is important to ask your doctor the right questions. Below, surgeon Dr. Milind K. Ambe outlines some of the most critical questions to ask.

What is rhinoplasty and how can it help me?

First and foremost, you need to know exactly what the corrective procedure entails and what it can do to help you. Reviewing the steps taken for the reconstruction, then asking specific questions will allow you to be accurately informed. This also gives you a chance to assess a plastic surgeon’s confidence level regarding performance of the treatment. You want a physician that can answer your questions in way that you will be able to understand completely. They must also be attentive to your needs and concerns.

Am I a good candidate for rhinoplasty?

Virtually anyone who wants a corrective procedure performed on their nose is a good candidate for rhinoplasty. Whether your nose has experienced trauma, you have a respiratory issue, or you just want structural improvements, rhinoplasty can help. However, age can play a factor in who may qualify as a good candidate.

What, if any, age limits apply?

Because the nose continues to grow through adolescence, we recommend waiting to undergo a rhinoplasty until growth spurts have ended. However, we understand that formative teenage years can be traumatic when one has a protruding nose or birth defect. Rhinoplasty can also correct the look of your nose when it has been broken or if you have been in an accident. In these instances, there can be exceptions to typical age restrictions. Studies have proven that growth in the middle of one’s face tends to stop sooner than the rest of a teenager’s body which makes the procedure safe for females 12 years and older and males 14 years and older. Ultimately, Dr. Ambe makes decisions on a case-by-case basis to determine the best course of action.

What degree of training and experience should I look for?

Because rhinoplasty is a delicate procedure, it is important to know your plastic surgeon’s level of experience and what type of training and credentials they have. Before you proceed with any plastic surgery, make certain the doctor is certified by The American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, The American Board of Cosmetic Surgery, or The American Board of Plastic Surgery as well as The American Board of Medical Specialties. Also, because most plastic surgeons are considered experts in a chosen specialty, it is helpful to know if they contribute scholarly research to academic journals or higher education.

Is Dr. Ambe certified and involved in academic pursuits?

Yes and yes. Dr. Ambe is certified by The American Board of Plastic Surgery as well as The American Board of Medical Specialties. He graduated from an accredited medical school, completed a five-year program in resident surgery training and accumulated seven years of surgical training before opening his 7,000-square-foot facility. He is also a member of The American Society of Plastic Surgeons, The California Society of Plastic Surgeons, and The Orange County Society of Plastic Surgeons. Furthermore, he has served as an assistant clinical professor of plastic surgery at UC Irvine where he taught others pursuing his craft.

How will you work for me to get the results I want?

When considering rhinoplasty, you need to know if your chosen plastic surgeon will deliver the results you desire. Typically, photos of previously completed rhinoplasties can be showcased with pictures taken pre- and post-op. However, it is equally important for the doctor to sit down with you, listen to your needs, and explain the process in detail, including what to expect when the surgery is complete. You also want a plastic surgeon willing to explain what kinds of preparations you should make before the surgery and what post-operative care will involve.

Do you have before and after pictures?

When choosing any plastic surgeon, it is crucial to look at their record of performance. A qualified and professional plastic surgeon is proud to showcase their work done on satisfied patients. They should have a portfolio for you to examine. We have an extensive photo gallery available to peruse on our website. We also have photos of our work in the office. While you are likely to have more specific questions for any potential plastic surgeon, these questions are a starting point for selecting the right surgeon for your rhinoplasty. Newport Beach is the home of Dr. Ambe’s reputable plastic and reconstructive surgical practice. Consider a consultation for surgery in our office.

A Mommy Makeover could be the key to improving confidence after pregnancy

December 21st, 2012

Mommy MakeoverIf you are like countless other women who want to tighten their figures and trim unwanted pounds gained during pregnancy, a Mommy Makeover could help you gain back your confidence. When it comes to surgical procedures like those involved in a Mommy Makeover, Women have trusted Dr. Ambe to get them back to their pre-pregnancy bodies since I opened my practice in 1998.

The Mommy Makeover is a comprehensive procedure that corrects the changes your body went through during pregnancy and gives you back your pre-baby body. From head to toe, there are procedures to target all aspects of your body for a leaner and tighter you. Although the procedures vary from person to person, a Mommy Makeover typically includes a combination of breast augmentation, breast lift, breast reduction, liposuction, abdominoplasty, or other procedures.

However, because these procedures are often performed during the same surgery, they might require more downtime than if a single procedure occurred, but if you want results these procedures are worth the time. You can emerge a firmer, more confident you.

So when do you start the process? The answer depends on your body and on the specific procedures you will have done.

The most important factor is that you have fully recovered from childbirth, and the time this takes varies from person to person.

You will also want to be sure you are not having any more children. If more little ones are planned for the future any plastic surgery you have for now may be all for naught. Your body will likely change again. If you are done having children though, it’s time to seriously contemplate your Mommy Makeover. Residents sometimes wait for a few weeks after childbirth while others wait a year. This option is completely up to you. It ultimately depends on your comfort level, but the general rule is to make sure your body has fully recovered from childbirth before surgery.

As a new mom, you have to wait three to six months after breastfeeding to ensure your breasts do not change again. It may be safer to wait six months, depending on your body and the specific procedures you want. However, if you did not breastfeed, it will take less time for your breasts to settle and stop changing. Women should feel free to have a consultation at any time, though. We’ll talk through the specifics of your circumstances before we proceed. That way we can figure out a customized timeline for your body.

It’s also important to factor in recovery time. You can’t be physically active, including household activities, for at least two weeks after the surgery. So, if you are hands-on mother without a nanny or babysitter, it may be best to wait until you have more free time or until your child is no longer an infant.

There is also no age limit to get a Mommy Makeover. If your body can recover from childbirth, it can likely withstand surgery, but like all matters dealing with the body, everyone is different.

Male Plastic Surgery is On the Rise

October 23rd, 2012

Male Plastic SurgeryFor the past 30 years, talk in the plastic surgery industry has been geared towards showcasing the effects on women’s faces and bodies and how it has positively impacted their self-esteem. But the interested men aren’t far behind these days. According to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, men accounted for nearly 800,000 of the 9 million surgical and nonsurgical procedures performed in 2011. Those numbers are expected to continue to climb because the participating men are loving the youthful and masculine effects of skin smoothing, muscular enhancements, and fat removal.

Statistical data prove that men are pursuing aesthetic rejuvenations in small towns and major cities alike. Face lift procedures are among the most popular, landing in the top five for cosmetic surgeries performed on men. This information also shows that men value these procedures for impacting both their physical and psychological esteem. Just two years ago, gynecomastia (male breast reduction) and hair transplants were rounding out the top procedures men sought out. Now, men are realizing that they can benefit from other surgeries as well, getting rhinoplasty, eyelid surgery, and liposuction much more than in the past. These procedures are projected to remain in the top three for this year’s data, and are expected to continue to rank well in the near future.

Liposuction has always been known to help with sculpting the appearance of the body. Women and men appreciate that this option is available, because it acts as a great complement to work they may be doing in the gym. Cosmetic surgery can make men look and feel younger and more attractive, too. Reduction and restructuring are not just for ladies. Plastic surgery is unisex; a licensed, board certified surgeon utilizes expert knowledge of the differences in male and female anatomy to honor different body types, as well as accentuate the unique attractiveness of each patient.

For more information about male plastic surgery or to develop your own surgical plan, visit or call Newport Beach Plastic Surgery at (949) 759-5539 to schedule a consultation with Milind K. Ambe M.D. at his office, located at 1441 Avocado Ave. Suite 801, Newport Beach, CA 92660.

Looking Great with a Mommy Makeover

October 9th, 2012

Looking good can lead you to feel more self-confident. When you feel good, you perform better at whatever work you do inside and outside of the home. Many women feel peace of mind when they feel confident in their own bodies, but this can change as they age or have children.

Mommy Makeover

If you are unhappy with the way your body looks after you’ve had children, there is a perfect procedure for you: the Mommy Makeover, one of the most popular types of plastic surgery. Surgeons perform a variety of cosmetic procedures to help mothers get back the youthful, toned appearance their bodies once had. This procedure may include a breast augmentation, which may include repositioning the areola and improving the shape of the breasts overall. Many women also opt for a tummy tuck to improve the tone and shape of their waist. Liposuction of the abdomen, upper arms and thighs are common choices as well, because of the weight gain that comes with pregnancy. Smoother skin, toned arms and legs, and a perkier chest are just a few of the physical benefits women look forward to when choosing a mommy makeover.

There are also inherent psychological benefits to improving one’s physical appearance. Feeling bad about the way you look can affect not only self-esteem, but energy levels. Once the surgery, recovery and healing have taken place, it will reveal a new body and a new attitude. Mommy makeovers typically allow patients to get around easier, feel more comfortable being active, and comfortably interact in social settings. It’s wonderful to be a mother and also feel good about yourself as a woman. With a Mommy Makeover, you will remember what it feels like to look great. Your kids will notice, too!

For more information about Mommy Makeovers or to develop your own surgical plan, visit or call Newport Beach Plastic Surgery at (949) 759-5539 to schedule a consultation with Milind K. Ambe M.D. at his office, located at 1441 Avocado Ave. Suite 801, Newport Beach, CA 92660.

This link below about Obamacare sums it up beautifully.

October 9th, 2012

Although we may all have different political views, and although we all may not agree what to do about the horrendous deficit that our country has, we should ALL care about what is about to happen to our wonderful healthcare system.    If nothing else, PLEASE think as to how this will affect your children, because it will.    I come from a Family of 5 doctors, and I have personally seen our healthcare delivery system erode from when my Father started practicing medicine in the 60’s. . . .from indemnity health care (true fee-for-service, choose your doc/quality health care) to PPO health care, to managed care (HMO’s), to capitated health care (essentially rationed care).

Americans, as a whole, have NO IDEA how Obamacare (Obamatax) is going to change healthcare forever and how they and their Families/children will be affected forever.   If you think the Obama administration is telling the truth about Obamacare, then you must believe the lies about how they indicated that it was not a tax (and it absolutely is, according to Chief Justice John Roberts), and you must believe the lies/cover-up about how our Libyan Ambassador was killed by “protestors”, and not terrorists.

Whoever you believe and/or don’t believe, believe me when I tell you that Obamacare will be an absolute catastrophe for the quality of healthcare for this country, as we currently know it.   If you understand what Medi-caid/Medi-cal is, then that EXACTLY is what Obamacare is. . . . .the absolute worst kind of healthcare that one can be subjected to. . . socialized, rationed, government-run healthcare.

The most important thing for all of us to do is forward this link below to all of our friends/business contacts/ relatives in not only California, but more importantly, throughout the country.   A lot of us are transplanted from somewhere else in the U.S., and this information needs to get to those in the Midwest/swing states (Ohio, Virginia, Florida, Wisconsin, Michigan, Indiana, Iowa, Colorado, Pennsylvania, etc).    Send this blog post to anyone you know anywhere in the country and have them do the same.

You may not care about much of what is going on (although I know that most of you do), but you should ABSOLUTELY care about how your children are going to be affected by Obamacare. . . . just think of your children.

Thanks, and please do your part to protect your children.    Obama does not care about them.

Plastic Surgery Leaves Patients Looking Years Younger and Feeling Refreshed

September 14th, 2012

Cosmetic surgery, especially facial surgeries, have been shown to reverse the signs of aging. Many studies are being conducted on just how dramatic this change can be. By studying the perceived changes, these studies show that surgery can make a person look as much as nine years younger. This is great news for local plastic surgeons. Patients can now get a better understanding of results and surgeons can better communicate how to achieve them. Facelift patients are excited about this new information.

plastic surgery newport beach

In the study, several before and after pictures were reviewed by medical students. On average, those who had gone through one or more elective facial surgeries looked 7.2 years younger. The greater combination of surgeries, the better the results. Many with the most dramatic change had undergone face-lift surgery, forehead-lift surgery, and neck-lift surgery by a plastic surgeon.

Another benchmark for results is the level of experience your surgeon has with facial procedures. While each patient’s goals are different and each surgical plan unique, plastic surgeons have a track record of success. The best record of that success is through patient testimonials and before and after pictures. Not only can you see examples of results, you can get an idea of how other people felt throughout the process. Elective surgery is not only about achieving aesthetic results. It’s also about restoring confidence and feeling comfortable throughout the process.

Plastic Surgery: Predictions to Reality in 2011

April 30th, 2012

Panama Cosmetic Surgery and other Procedures The American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery is the leading source for consumer demographic research and statistics for years past as well as predictions for the year that lies ahead. Surgeons use information—such as the number of each procedure performed and the gender, age and ethnicity of the patient—to determine predictions related to the plastic surgery trends for the coming year. Now that 2011 is complete, we decided to revisit the predictions made in 2011 to see if they came true.

Prediction: Increase in economy will lead to increase in cosmetic procedures.

Result: This proved to be true in both 2010 and 2011.

Prediction: Both men and women will continue to seek cheaper plastic surgery regardless of the risk.

Result: It proved to be true and will probably continue into 2012 as the prices of procedures are actually being slated to go up by 20%.

Prediction: Facelifts and facial procedures will be on the rise.

Result: This is actually true except for male patients. There was a sharp increase in their interest and going through with the rejuvenation in 2011.

Plastic surgery is a means to correct congenital, developmental and aesthetics incongruities. Both men and women utilize these surgical and non-surgical procedures in order enhance their appearance. Plastic surgeons in Newport Beach observe the predictions in order to prepare themselves with the knowledge and skills needed to perform these surgeries.

Choosing a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon

April 16th, 2012

The American Board of Plastic Surgery, ABPS, certifies the expertise of a plastic surgeon through their education and skill performance. There are several stages of qualification for them to achieve board certification.

In order to receive ABPS certification, a plastic surgeon must meet the criteria instituted by ABPS. First, he or she is required to have graduated from an ABPS recognized and accredited medical school. Second, the plastic surgeon needs to have completed a minimum of five years residency. Third, ABPS surgeons must have approximately three years of general surgery experience which displays their knowledge of the human form and functions beyond academics and residency. Forth, they must practice as a plastic surgeon for a minimum of two years. Lastly, successful completion of written and oral examinations is expected in order to finalize certification.

ABPS is the only board certification for plastic surgeons in Orange County and in the United States. Therefore, if a surgeon states they are certified but cannot garner any documentation of their affiliation, then you should not choose this surgeon for your procedure. There are two reasons it is dangerous to pursue a cosmetic procedure with someone who is not board certified. First, there is no assurance of the level of their skills or tools for cosmetic procedures; therefore, you are gambling with the results of the procedure. Second, their training and qualifications are unknown; therefore, it is also unknown how well they can handle an emergency during your procedure.

Newport Beach plastic surgeon, Milind K. Ambe, MD, is an ABPS board-certified plastic surgeon.  For more information on his qualifications or to schedule an appointment for Orange County plastic surgery, contact Dr. Ambe’s office at (949) 759-5539.

Plastic Surgery Approval- Over Half of Americans Say Yes

January 9th, 2012

orange county plastic surgery newport beach plastic surgeryPlastic surgery is a controversial issue in that U.S. Americans either support the idea of cosmetic surgery or disapprove of making changes to their bodies. A recent survey shows that over half of Americans support an individual’s right to plastic surgery.  If you fall in the majority and are interested in cosmetic surgery, contact Newport Beach Plastic Surgery to schedule a consultation for your Orange County plastic surgery procedure.

According to a February 2011 survey, more than half of all American citizens (which is to say roughly 51 percent) are comfortable with the idea of having plastic surgery and would not have a problem if someone in their life had a cosmetic procedure done on their face or body. This report shows an increase of three percent in the approval rating since 2009.

There does not even seem to be a certain demographic of plastic surgery supporters.  People of all classes are comfortable with such procedures.  The opinions and viewpoints of Americans regarding plastic surgery are not affected by their gender or marital status either. Men and women alike, regardless of whether they are single, married, divorced or widowed see plastic surgery as a viable option to looking better and slowing the signs of the aging process. More and more people are seeing the many benefits to getting a nip or a tuck somewhere on their physique. For many people a cosmetic surgery procedure can be life changing.

If you are in Orange County, plastic surgery is a safe, easy procedure at Newport Beach Plastic Surgery. Milind K. Ambe MD is one such plastic surgeon who can offer you plastic surgical procedures that will enhance and improve upon your physical features. An estimated 53 percent of women and 49 percent of men approve of having cosmetic surgery. If you are unhappy with an aspect of your appearance then the time has come to take action and to take control of your life.

Newport Beach Breast Augmentation Most Popular Cosmetic Procedure

December 20th, 2011

Summary: Considering Newport Beach breast augmentation? This is one of the most popular cosmetic procedures due to high patient satisfaction and short recovery times!

When it comes to cosmetic procedures, breast augmentation is clearly the most popular among patients across the country, including those in Newport Beach. Breast augmentation consistently ranks at the top of the list of plastic surgeries. The reason? Most patients point to high satisfaction rates and short recovery times.

Newport Beach plastic surgeon, Milind K. Ambe MD, understands why. According to him, “Patients are finding that implants are giving more natural looking results, making them far happier with their surgery results than ever before.”

New surgical techniques have also led to this result. Today’s women can have breast augmentation and then be back to work within just a couple of weeks. The recovery times are quite short compared to the techniques used in the past.

Another possible reason that the satisfaction rates are so high is the fact that women have a very clear expectation about this surgery. Unlike a face lift or tummy tuck, which can be hard to visualize, technological advances, like the iAugment app,  are making it easier for women to picture what they will look like after breast augmentation. Realistic expectations lead to satisfied patients.

Of course, much of what leads to a high satisfaction rate and a short recovery time is the skill of the surgeon. Choosing a surgeon who is quite skilled at this procedure, such as Dr. Ambe, greatly improves your chances of having a result that you are happy with. Always look at before and after shots from the surgeon’s office and find out how many breast augmentations his clinic performs each year. This will help you find an experienced, skilled doctor for your upcoming Newport Beach breast augmentation procedure.

Increase in Newport Beach Plastic Surgery for Patients over 60

December 13th, 2011

The New York Times recently published an article on the subtle, but apparent increase in plastic surgery for elderly patients. More men and women are choosing to augment their bodies with elective cosmetic procedures designed to help them look and feel better. According to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, face lifts, eyelid surgery, liposuction, breast reductions, forehead lifts, breast lifts and even breast augmentation are becoming more popular in men and women that are 60, 70 or even 80 years old. This trend is continuing to rise and will likely accelerate even faster as the baby boomer generation quickly approaches 65 and older.

Although there are additional risks associated with having a surgery later in life, advances in technology have reduced these risks.  Many elderly men and women see these procedures as helpful to staying competitive in the job market because they can’t afford to (or don’t want to) retire. For them, the benefits of plastic surgery outweigh the risks.

Plastic surgery options remain open throughout your life. Newport Beach plastic surgeon, Milind K. Ambe MD, is happy to meet with patients to discuss options for procedures that can help them look and feel younger. Make these years the best of your life and feel good about the way you look!

Should patients bring in celebrity photos for Orange County plastic surgery?

October 31st, 2011
As cosmetic procedures continue to grow in popularity with each passing year, you have to wonder what is causing so many people to go under the knife. Aside from the patients who utilize plastic surgery to remedy a malformation such as a birth defect or as a result of a trauma, why is there such a prevalence of dislike in the way we look? It seems appropriate to mention the influence of pop culture on this growing trend of cosmetic surgery. Our society has an obsession with celebrities— their appearances and their lifestyles.  Newport Beach plastic surgeon, Milind K. Ambe MD, has experience working with reality stars and private individuals to give them the look they desire.
The truth of the matter is that at one time or another, you might have wanted to resemble a celebrity or at least have some of the same features as that celebrity. So should you bring in a picture of your favorite celebrity to a plastic surgeon in an effort to replicate their look? It certainly can’t hurt. However, it is extremely important that patients have realistic expectations. These pictures can serve as a guide for the plastic surgeon, but the end result will depend on each individual’s existing bone structure. In Orange County, plastic surgery can help men and women become closer to achieving the celebrity appearance they’ve always wanted.

October 25th, 2011

When was the last time you took a long look at yourself in the mirror and actually liked what you saw in your reflection? Chances are, it has been a while, especially if you have ignored your own needs because you were busy tending to your kids. If this sounds like your story, you can rest assured that you are not alone. In fact, it is not unusual for devoted mothers and fathers to put the needs of their kids above their own. While such behavior is both is expected and appropriate, it can and does contribute to a consistent lack of attention to personal needs.  This can change when the kids grow up and leave the nest. You may be asking yourself, “What now?” The answer is simple. It is time to get back to all of the things that fulfill you, including your love life, and plastic surgery is just the way to accomplish this goal.  When it comes to revitalizing your love life through plastic surgery, Newport Beach residents trust Orange County plastic surgeon, Milind K. Ambe MD.

Let’s face it, when we look our best, we tend to feel better about showing off our bodies. With the kids gone and living their lives, it’s time to get back all of the things that fulfilled you, including a fulfilling and perhaps
adventurous love life.  However, if you haven’t taken such good care of your appearance because you were tending to your kids, then you will likely need some help getting back to your old or new self.  You can achieve this new look through a variety of surgeries, including breast augmentation, a tummy tuck, or a facelift.  Plastic surgery can not only help restore confidence in your appearance but it will also help enhance your love life by helping you to feel more confident about showing and sharing your body.

What Women Want: Breast Augmentation

September 7th, 2011

Plastic surgery has a growing presence within American society. This is particularly true with respect to breast augmentation, according to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS,) which funds cosmetic surgery research, education and procedural advances.

Orange Country Breast Augmentation According to a recent study conducted by ASAPS, titled “Cosmetic Surgery National Data Statistic for 2010”, breast augmentations topped the list of surgical procedures performed on women with 318,123 performed last year. This number is up over 40 percent from the previous year, and leads the second most performed cosmetic surgical procedure for women, liposuction, by nearly 30,000 procedures. As a result, there is no denying what women want: bigger breasts.

However, breast enhancements weren’t the only plastic surgery procedures that women sought out in high numbers in 2010. In fact, of all the cosmetic procedures performed last year, women accounted for nearly 8.6 million or 92 percent, which far exceeds the 8 percent of procedures performed on men. While this may be attributed to increased cultural pressures on women to conform to a heightened standard of beauty, it may also be attributed to the fact that more and more women are becoming accepting of cosmetic surgery. Specifically, nearly 53 percent of women say that they approve of cosmetic surgery compared to 49 percent of men according to the consumer attitudes survey component of the ASAPS study. This may offer an explanation as to why breast augmentations weren’t the only cosmetic procedures women were seeking. Rounding out the top five plastic surgery procedures that women opted for included: liposuction, eyelid surgery, abdominoplasty and breast reduction.

Milind K. Ambe MD of Newport Beach Plastic Surgery performs Orange County breast augmentation procedures year round. Contact Dr. Ambe here for a free consultation.

Breast Feeding With Your New Breast Implants: Life after an Orange County Breast Augmentation

August 16th, 2011

If you are considering Orange County breast augmentation, yet know that you will eventually have a baby that you want to breast feed, Dr. Ambe wants to set your mind at ease about your options. It is absolutely possible to nurse an infant after having breast implant surgery, and here is what you need to know.

First, your ability to breastfeed will depend largely on where your incision was. It is possible to damage the milk ducts during breast augmentation where the incisions are around the areola. Other incision sites, like under the fold or through the armpit, are far less likely to cause problems. This is why Dr. Ambe will discuss any future breastfeeding with you before your surgery.

Breast surgery can change the sensations of your nipples. If they are much more sensitive, you might have more nipple pain as you learn to breastfeed. Getting your baby’s latch right with the help of a lactation specialist can fix this problem.

Breast engorgement with an implant can be more painful and exaggerated, but this does not prevent you from nursing. As your body adjusts to the milk your baby is drinking, this problem will right itself. If you have fever and chills with your engorgement, you will need medical intervention to ensure you do not have mastitis, a very dangerous breast infection.

Of course, breast-feeding will change the shape and contours of your breasts. For this reason, some women choose to put off their Orange County breast augmentation surgery until they are certain they are done having and nursing babies. That said, most women can successfully breast feed after implant surgery.

Newport Beach Liposuction v. Tummy Tuck: Which surgery is right for me?

August 5th, 2011

If you are getting your body beach-ready for this summer season, you may be considering plastic surgery. However, there are many body sculpting options and you may be unsure about which type is right for you. How do you know if you need liposuction? What is the difference between liposuction and tummy tuck surgery? Which one is right for you?

Newport Beach liposuction is a series of techniques designed to remove stubborn fat deposits from various areas of your body. Patients that make good candidates for this type of procedure are in good overall health and have a troublesome area like their buttocks or thighs that they want to contour and slim. Some patients elect to have liposuction surgery on their abdomen, but many use this type of procedure for other problem areas. However, an Orange County tummy tuck is a popular way to tighten and tone your abs.

Orange County tummy tuck is an extensive abdominoplasty designed to tone and trim the abdominal wall and further define its muscles. This type of procedure is great for women that have been pregnant multiple times or patients that have recently lost a dramatic amount of weight. Tummy tuck surgery will remove any excess skin and shape your midsection into top shape.

So whether you need a Newport Beach liposuction or a tummy tuck, or a combination of both, Dr. Milind K. Ambe and the staff at Newport Beach Plastic Surgery can help you make an informed decision. Give us a call at (949) 759-5539 or fill out our online form.

Newport Beach Plastic Surgery Grows in Popularity with Reality Shows Like Real Housewives of Orange County

July 19th, 2011

Most people know that reality TV is rarely actual reality, yet many people are making changes to the way they do things based on these programs. For instance, when the stars of Real Housewives of Orange County started going under the knife for cosmetic surgery, rates for Newport Beach plastic surgery began to increase as well. While the reality stars may not live a realistic lifestyle, they have drawn light to plastic surgery and the real results they are seeing.

Dr. Milind K. Ambe, who is known throughout Newport Beach for plastic surgery excellence, was recently seen on The Real Housewives of Orange County. In one episode he was chosen by Tamra Barney to perform a breast augmentation revision surgery. The reality TV star was seeking to downsize her implants to make them more in line with her shape, and her dramatic improvement combined with the skill and professionalism Dr. Ambe exhibited on the show has sparked interest in many other women and caused them to seek his help.

After the successful breast augmentation, Ms. Barney again sought Dr. Ambe’s services for her mother who was having a facelift. Seeing these results, Lynne Curtin came to Dr. Ambe for a facelift and browlift to turn the clock back about 15 years. Curtin’s teenage daughter, Raquel also sought his advice about the potential to have a rhinoplasty. Lynne and Raquel had their surgeries performed on the same day so that they could recover together.

These surgeries showed Dr. Ambe’s varied skills, causing even more people to schedule procedures or express an interest in surgery, and, more specifically, the skills of Dr. Ambe. Yet, even when he is on camera, Dr. Ambe clearly focuses on the needs of his patients. When Raquel, the teenager who was considering a nose job, also asked him about a breast implant procedure, he was careful to explain that she needed to wait until she was finished developing before considering something as drastic as surgery. This patient-centric approach has earned him an excellent reputation for Newport Beach plastic surgery.

Platelet Rich Plasma Injections Complement: Orange County Facelift

July 11th, 2011

Now available to patients looking for Orange County facelift, Platelet Rich Plasma injections help to enhance the effects of the facelift. Platelets are a natural component of your body’s blood supply and help promote collagen production. Collagen is the material that helps our skin maintain its elasticity. As we age, our skin naturally produces less collagen over the years and, in turn, loses elasticity. This leads to the inevitable wrinkles, fine lines, deep brow furrows or crow’s feet. With platelet rich plasma injections, plastic surgeons are able to offer their patients a way to naturally renew their collagen production.

Dr. Milind K. Ambe is pleased to offer platelet rich plasma injections for his Orange County facelift patients. Men and women that have extensive facelift work done on their skin and jowls can enhance the effects of the surgery and lengthen the results with this type of therapy. The platelets in the injections help to promote the body’s natural collagen production, but also improve blood flow to injured areas. This helps speed healing around incision sites and ensures you will get the most beautiful results from your surgery. This type of therapy uses your body’s own platelets removed from a sample of your blood, so there is virtually no chance of rejection by your body.

Orange County: Breast Augmentation Financing Options

June 15th, 2011

If you are ready for a new look and are a resident of Orange County, breast augmentation likely looks tempting. In most cases, the result is appealing, but the payment issue is not exactly easy. Many doctors only accept limited payment types, leaving you to figure out how to fund your surgery. Fortunately, Newport Beach Plastic Surgery has plenty of payment options.

Many people are ready to put their plastic surgery on a credit card so that they can pay it off over time, but run into the complication that their doctor does not accept their card type. Newport Beach Plastic Surgery accepts major cards, such as Visa, Discover, American Express, and MasterCard, so there is no reason to have to take out a high-interest loan or sell items to pay for the procedure. If you do not want to use your regular cards, but are interested in some kind of financing, consider CareCredit. This type of card features no fees upfront, allowing you to make your appointment today before paying anything. You can then pay off your surgery over 48 months, with no prepayment penalties should you be able to pay it off sooner. As long as you plan to finance $2000 to $25000, you can enjoy this card with interest rates starting at 11.9%. Furthermore, most applicants get a decision right away when they sign up online.

If you want breast enhancement but think you can never afford it, think again. Orange County breast augmentation provider Dr. Milind K. Ambe offers payment options that can suit anyone. Whether you want to pay with cash, credit card, or a special plastic surgery revolving line of credit that you can also use for future procedures, it can be done at Newport Beach Plastic Surgery. Do not let your lack of immediate funds stop you from getting the body you have always wanted.
